David Letterman and Warren Zevon

I had fallen away from watching David Letterman but did catch the final show last night. It was very good and Letterman showed his humanity when he smiled at his wife and son when he introduced them. Letterman wasn't hard to watch through the years (I didn't agree with his political views and they were very evident) but his somewhat less than emotional presentations were at times left me a little empty. But last night, and especially when he said he loved his family and with... that what more do you need, what more did I need in watching? Dave had favorites, as some of them were on last night, including Bill Murray. Who could not get engaged with Murray but trying to match his aura would be so tough. Letterman could. His reason for having Foo Fighters do the last song was also touching, as I too had a by-pass surgery about the time Litterman did. Of all his shows that stood out, one that I will never forget is the one I have added links to below. The night he had Warren Zevon on, after Mr. Zevon had announced he was dying from cancer and his showing on that night would be his last television appearance, was my favorite Letterman show. Zevon was on often during the years, his favorite entertainer he had grace the Ed Sullivan Theater. I too was a Zevon man. He was in my top 5, and I have regrets that I never saw him in concert. That show with Zevon was the most sad but love filled moment one could watch on TV. At the end Zevon gave Letterman his guitar, and you feel that relationship between the two, one that was priceless. Being Catholic, myl funeral down the line will be Catholic and there are things that I cannot include in that funeral Mass. If I had my druthers, Zevon's wonderful song "Keep Me In Your Heart" would be played. Since by rules of the Church it cannot, I hope my surviving wife/sons include a play at my wake. It would be my wish.
